Black Lives Matter Street Mural

In front of 36 Court St, Springfield, MA

On September 12, 2020 Common Wealth Murals provided logistic support to the community painting of a Black Lives Matter street mural in front of City Hall in Springfield, MA. Over 100 community members helped paint the mural. The project was organized by Springfield City Councilor Tracye Whitfield, who said, “Activating this space is a symbolic action on the part of the City, politicians, artists and the community. It is used to raise people’s awareness that the Black Lives Matter fight is very significant. It symbolically stands up to the powers that be that deny black people their humanity. The mural makes the statement that the protestors and all those who fight for racial justice are being heard, and that those who are not on the right side of the fight for justice for black lives, have been put on notice that the City of Springfield stands for racial and social equality. This bold statement, in the form of a mural, speaks for the voices of people who are taking bold steps in this fight even in the midst of adversity and a pandemic.”
